5 out of 5 stars This and some exercise cured my back   September 6, 2010
Hugh Watkins (Atlanta, GA)
I had some compression in my back between L4 and L5, and slouching in my chair at work was the main cause. Basically as I understand it, when you slouch in your chair it does several things, it stretches some ligaments that should not be stretched and it causes you back muscles to work harder when you lift. Since most of us do not get enough upper body exercise, even if you run or bike daily that does not work your "core muscles" as my PT put it, then your back takes the full brunt of the lifting causing the soft discs to compress unnaturally. I started looking for solutions to prevent the slouching and came upon this chair, it has been great for my back, although you can still use bad posture the chair make me at least notice it faster.

I was worried since this chair seemed inexpensive, but it seems very solid and well designed. In reality there is not a lot of physical material in the chair steel, casters, plywood, memory foam and some material so it may be inexpensive because it's easy to manufacture.

Get this chair and the Robin McKenzie books and you could be on your way to a pain free back.

2 out of 5 stars Strong in theory, weak on performance   September 5, 2010
SWood (CA United States)
I was looking for a kneeling chair that would help me with back and neck pain as I have two disc injuries and some neck discomfort from sitting at a computer. The chair is soft, made with a tempurpedic-like material, which was fairly comfortable to sit on, however the fabric was rough and in shorts it was an uncomfortable.

The chair itself doesn't adjust low enough on the angle for me, so it bothered my neck a great deal, and did put stress on my lower back and aggravated my discs. I sold it after using it for a little bit. So... Positives: light weight, easy to assemble, and might work for those without structural injuries. Negatives: fabric rough on skin, angles may be too extreme for someone with neck or back injuries, wasn't able to sit in it for more than 15 minutes without issues.

The material of this chair are very good and the whole thing is sturdy. unfortunately for me it is not as comfortable as other knee chairs i have used. i am 5 feet 6 and it seems that it was designed for taller people since when i raise it to improve the angle between knees and torso i end up way too high in regards to the desk. the geometry is a bit off.

4 out of 5 stars So far so good!   July 28, 2010

I just got this chair today and I am impressed enough to write a review already.

The cushions are nice and thick.

The assembly was easy (took me approx 20 minutes and they provide everything you need).

The chair is sturdy.

It looks nice.

Rolls well.

And most importantly, my back already feels better!

4 out of 5 stars Best of the worst   July 26, 2010

I bought this chair as I have two herniated discs, so sitting in a regular chair causes shooting pains after about 20 minutes. In this regard, the chair has been great. I can now sit for much longer at my desk, whereas before I was standing with a table on top of my desk. The chair is a better quality than the picture makes it look. I was worried it would be very cheap in construction, but it's actually thicker and more stable than it appears.

With that said the drawbacks are not huge. One, it's pretty ugly. Having moved from an Eames office chair to this chair at my desk my wife informed me it will be put away when people come over. Second is the memory foam. As others have noted, it seems to be insufficiently dense for the knees. So after not so long sitting you'll find your knees pushing onto the metal (keep in mind, I'm 6" and 195lbs). Third is you really exchange the points of dis-comfort. Now I find my butt gets quickly sore.

All in all, best one I found on Amazon or otherwise and a great price compared to what I saw in the stores for 3x the price.
